We live in a fallen world filled with uncertainty and fear. In this hostile environment, negative emotions try to take root in our hearts. We’re not called to live in fear, but in faith, and God’s Word on this is clear. Understanding what He says to us and knowing how to apply it to our daily lives lets us walk in peace.
Fear isn’t a natural part of our born-again spirits; it’s something that comes from the outside. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Fear brings bondage, but God brings freedom. “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15) Rejecting fear and embracing our identity as God’s children allows us to step into a peaceful life.
God’s protection isn’t just a concept or an idea, but a promise to confidently stand on. It’s something He deliberately and explicitly spells out for us in specific detail. “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection” (Psalm 91:1–4, NLT). This passage paints a vivid picture of supernatural safety—God as our shelter, our shield, and our safe haven. His faithful promises are our armor; trusting Him covers us on every side.
Fear is a tool the enemy uses to control and torment us. When we’re rooted in God’s love, fear loses its grip. “Love never brings fear, for fear is always related to punishment. But love’s perfection drives the fear of punishment far from our hearts. Whoever walks constantly afraid of punishment has not reached love’s perfection” (1 John 4:18, TPT). The love God equips us with is not only comforting, but powerful enough to drive out every trace of fear.
Satan wants to blind us to the truth of God’s protection. “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God, should shine unto them” (2 Corinthians 4:4). Believers have spiritual vision. We can see through the lies of fear and stand firm in the truth of God’s Word.
God protects us actively and intentionally, not passively. Psalm 103:2-4 reminds us of His benefits: forgiveness, healing, redemption, and lovingkindness. He redeems our lives from destruction and crowns us with mercy. When we remember His faithfulness, our confidence in His protection grows stronger.
What God gives us is also proactive, not reactive. On our journey through life, He precedes us to prepare the way while watching behind us to protect us from demonic ambushes. “For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard” (Isaiah 52:12, NKJV). We’re surrounded by His presence at all times.
God’s protection isn’t a distant hope; it’s a present reality. It’s not His will for us to live timidly, fearful and afraid of everything. Relying on Him is the safest thing we could ever do.
