“Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it” (Ephesians 4:29, AMPC).
Believers have God Himself living in them; it’s therefore especially important to remember how what we say affects those around us. God has given us the power of speech; we must use this power to bless and encourage others.
“Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles” (Proverbs 21:23).
Words are powerful, and we can get ourselves in trouble if we forget that. With our words, we can speak things into existence, either for good or for evil.
“For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory” (Psalm 149:4, NIV).
Embracing the same humble attitude that Jesus had is one way of showing that we’re God’s children. Choosing humility over pride is a choice He honors greatly.
“The reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord leads to life, and he who has it rests satisfied; he cannot be visited with [actual] evil” (Proverbs 19:23, AMPC).
Believers have God’s promise of living lives untouched by the fear of evil. Believing and relying on Him lets us enter into rest.
“The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies” (2 Samuel 22:3, 4).
“A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom, but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother… Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire” (Proverbs 29:15, 17, NIV).
Plenty of childcare experts give advice, but the best and wisest counsel is found in the Scriptures. Parents do well when they use biblical guidelines to raise their children.
“Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed” (Proverbs 16:3, AMPC).
Lining up our thoughts with God’s thoughts guarantees success and prosperity in everything we do. Committing to and trusting Him completely in all situations starts this alignment process.
“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ” (Romans 10:17, NIV).
Our faith connects us to God, but it’s only developed through constant study of His Word. Hearing the truth of the Gospel of Grace preached regularly changes our thinking and renews our mind.
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8, 9, NIV).
Every life has pain, but what sets believers apart is the strength from God to resist the things of destruction. We can expect trouble to show up, but we’re able to endure it when we lean on Him.
“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully” (1 Peter 5:7, AMPC).
God didn’t create us to be anxious or worried. When we feel the stress and frustrations of life weighing us down, He wants us to give them all to Him. He cares about us deeply, and He watches over us constantly.
