Daily Devotionals - August 2024

31Aug

August 31

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13, NKJV).

In the Old Testament, the people were far from God; even touching the mountain where He lived meant certain death. Now, we can confidently come into His presence because of the blood Jesus shed on the cross.

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:8, 9, NIV).

Letting the Holy Spirit guide our every thought unites us, according to the will of God. His plan is for us to act toward others as Jesus did toward those He came in contact with during His earthly ministry. Behaving like this supernaturally opens the door to God’s blessings in our lives.

29Aug

August 29

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).

True joy—the kind that’s so deep, so high, so wide, and so all-encompassing that it permeates our very being—comes from God. When we reach that point on our Christian walk where we feel it resonate through us, we’ll know it comes directly from Him. His plan is for us to be happy and glad-hearted in Him.

28Aug

August 28

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, rejoice (Philippians 4:4).

When we think about all the good things God has done for us and all the miracles He continues to work in our lives, we can’t help but rejoice and give thanks for His mercy and love. Having glad and thankful hearts is one indication that we’re beginning to exhibit the spiritual fruit that God wants for us.

August 27

It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30, NIV).

All good gifts come from God, including grace, who came to us in the form of Jesus Christ. When we’re in relationship with Christ, we receive the same qualities as He has. This includes His wisdom, righteousness, holiness, and right-standing with God.

Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged (Colossians 3:21).

As parents, grandparents, and caregivers, we should raise the next generation to be pleasing to God; this includes everything we do as well as what we say. Our children are watching us closely, and we should be mindful of what they see when they look at us.

August 25

My son, if your heart is wise, my heart will be glad, even mine; y es, my heart will rejoice when your lips speak right things (Proverbs 23:15, 16, AMPC).

When parents take the time and make the effort to raise godly children, those children will ultimately be a blessing to the parents. The knowledge of the right thing to speak at the right time comes from the Holy Spirit.

August 24

Even to your old age I am He, and even to hair white with age will I carry you. I have made, and I will bear; yes, I will carry and will save you (Isaiah 46:4, AMPC).

We can trust God in every situation, knowing that He’ll stick by us through everything life throws at us; He walks with us in happy times as well as when life gets ugly. Not only will He never leave us, but when we can’t go another step, He’ll carry us.

23Aug

August 23

Weary not yourself to be rich; cease from your own [human] wisdom. Will you set your eyes upon wealth, when [suddenly] it is gone? For riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flies toward the heavens (Proverbs 23:4, 5, AMPC).

God certainly wants prosperity and abundance for us, but seeking Him first over money keeps our priorities straight. Money is temporary, but God is forever. Trusting in Him instead of in our own wisdom opens the door to the financial blessings we want.

22Aug

August 22

Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it (Colossians 2:15, NKJV).

Jesus came to earth to establish the covenant of grace, and to demonstrate to the world the law of love in a way that the Law of Moses never could. Wherever He went, He defeated the powers of darkness using God’s Word; as His children, we have the same power and authority.

21Aug

August 21

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world (Philippians 2:15).

Accepting God’s Word by faith and applying it to our lives makes us His children, whom He has sanctified and made holy. We’re made into new creatures, completely without sin in His eyes; we stand out like beacons in the dark.

20Aug

August 20

So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ” (Colossians 1:28, NLT).

On our own, we’re imperfect human beings who struggle daily to do the right thing. But when Christ is in us and we’re in Christ, we’re perfected in Him. When religion tells us that we’re sinners, we can point to this Scripture to refute that claim.

19Aug

August 19

Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go (Isaiah 48:17).

When we seek God’s guidance in all areas of our life, we profit on every level. Applying His lessons to our life opens the door to financial blessings, as well as profitable results in all our endeavors.

18Aug

August 18

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace (Acts 18:9).

When God gives us a message, it’s something only we can hear because it’s directed specifically at us. If we respond to what He tells us, we’ll boldly speak the truth.

17Aug

August 17

And the Lord answered me, and said, write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (Habakkuk 2:2, 3).

Although this Scripture was written before Jesus came, it points to Him. God reveals to us the vision He has for our lives by writing it on the tablet of our hearts. It’s the truth because it comes straight from Him, and will be fulfilled in His time. Believing what He tells us empowers us to run when others can only crawl.

16Aug

August 16

And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision (1 Samuel 3:1).

In the Old Testament, messages from God to the people were rare. His Spirit hadn’t yet been given to the general population, but God spoke to Samuel because Samuel’s heart was turned toward Him. We now have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit.

15Aug

August 15

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints (Ephesians 1:17, 18).

When we get born again, God reveals to us who He is, and who we are in Christ. We receive our divine inheritance as God’s children, and a hope that the world does not have. Our spiritual eyes are opened, and we receive His wisdom.

14Aug

August 14

You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you (Psalm 91:5-7, NKJV).

The world is a violent, spiritually dark place; if we focus on everything going on around us instead of on God’s Word, our courage will fail us. We can be confident that God will never let evil overcome us.

13Aug

August 13

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?... It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes” (Psalm 118:6, 8, 9).

When we trust God in all situations, there’s no need to worry about anything others do. Putting our confidence in Him gives us divine protection and frees us from fear.

12Aug

August 12

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength (Isaiah 26:3, 4).

Trusting in just anyone brings its own set of risks, because trust involves being open and making ourselves vulnerable. However, when we trust in God, He’ll never let us down. He gives us His peace and His strength when we rely on Him.

11Aug

August 11

He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord (Psalm 112:7).

No matter where we look, there’s always some upheaval or crisis somewhere in the world. Putting our trust in what we see is like trusting in quicksand; when we entrust our hearts to God, our Rock, we won’t be swayed or knocked down.

10Aug

August 10

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

When something bad happens that we don’t understand, we know that God will ultimately cause good to come out of it. Regardless of what it looks like at the time, when we trust in His Word, everything turns out well in the end.

09Aug

August 9

Great peace have those who love Your law, and nothing causes them to stumble (Psalm 119:165, NKJV).

God’s law is the law of love; when we walk in the kind of love Jesus teaches us, we find a peace that transcends all understanding. Following in His footsteps keeps us safe and secure.

08Aug

August 8

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good (1 Peter 2:2, 3, NIV).

Spiritually, God’s Word feeds and sustains us and gives us life. When we’re new Christians, we need to learn the basics of living in Him and becoming accustomed to our newfound righteousness. However, once we outgrow milk and begin maturing in Christ, we can move on to the meat of His Word.

07Aug

August 7

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10, 11).

We mustn’t be deceived—we’re in a spiritual battle with an enemy who will use anything at his disposal to defeat and kill us. We put on the armor of God when we live His Word and let the Holy Spirit direct and guide us in everything.

06Aug

August 6

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Through Jesus, our true identity is established. When He lives in us and we live in Him, we’re righteous in God’s eyes.

05Aug

August 5

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:14).

God’s grace is something we don’t have to earn; we receive it even when we don’t deserve it. It frees the believer from having to follow endless rules and regulations like the people did under the Law of Moses.

04Aug

August 4

If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? (Luke 16:11).

God sees money differently than the world, and He wants to teach us how to put it in its proper perspective. Money is just a tool to bless others; having a thankful heart toward Him makes it easy to give. The real riches are in heaven, not on earth.

03Aug

August 2

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

The world lusts after riches and wealth, but its definition of wealth is limited solely to money. God has no limits, and His riches are vast and limitless.

01Aug

August 1

There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, but at the end of it is the way of death (Proverbs 14:12, AMPC).

Trying to direct our own lives and make our own decisions apart from God’s guidance can bog us down hopelessly; what we think is right for us might not necessarily line up with His plans for us. God has the big picture of everything going on around us that affects us; He knows exactly which way we should go.
