Lots of us have cherished memories of birthdays, Christmas, and other special events when we received gifts. These gifts weren’t just random things given with no thought behind them, but heartfelt tokens given to show us how much the giver loves us. God is the same way. Just like any loving earthly father, our heavenly Father wants to give us gifts and heap blessings on us, even when we don’t deserve them.

God isn’t asking for perfection. Imperfect as we are as parents, we know how to lovingly take care of our children and give them what’s best; our heavenly Father is even more ready to give wonderful gifts to those who ask Him. From the overflow of God’s fullness we have received grace heaped upon more grace.

God is incapable of giving us anything but good things, because goodness is His nature. Every good and perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there’s no shadow of turning. One of those gifts is salvation, despite our past sins; the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Our salvation by faith isn’t something we can take credit for, because it’s a gift from God.

We all have gifts differing according to the grace given to us, specifically to fulfill the mission of sharing the Word with others. God provides everything we need to fulfil this mission, including financial blessings to get the job done. Our obedience to fulfill the Great Commission lets Him enrich us in everything, so that we can impact others’ lives enough to cause thanksgiving. We can also be thankful for this indescribable gift. 

God’s gifts will never stop coming to the faithful. The more we receive, the more we can share with others. It’s a never-ending cycle that causes increasing gratitude and joy. This is how His grace operates.

Prayer:

Lord, the grace gifts You give us aren’t based on our goodness, but on Yours. We don’t have to be perfect to receive them, we just need to believe in Your love for us. We can’t thank You enough for this. In Jesus’ name, amen.
